Narcotics - The Ventura County Sheriff’s Department has seven trained narcotic detecting canines. All of these canines are trained to detect the five most common illegal drugs we come across on a daily basis, marijuana, methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin and MDMA or ecstasy. The canines assist patrol deputies, narcotic officers, and detention services personnel in locating narcotics hidden by criminals. It is certain that without the use of a well-trained canine and the canines great sense of smell many narcotic stashes would go undiscovered.
The canines are commonly used on probation searches, parole searches, jail searches, search warrants and vehicle searches.
