Sgt. Mike Horne has transferred to the Special Services Bureau – Narcotics Unit after 5 ½ years with the K9 Unit.
While Mike was the units supervisor, the unit under went many changes. The unit obtained 5 new K9 teams after the previous teams retired after many years of dedicated service, an annual fund-raising golf tournament was developed to help supplement the funds that were raised at the unit's annual 9K fund-raising event and he was able to add a much needed K9 team to Detention Services. Mike was able to build a high level of proficiency with the each of the K9 teams by encouraging them to push themselves to be the best possible K9 team and by sending them to desired training courses.
This high level of proficiency was noticed by patrol deputies and other allied agencies that work with these K9 teams on a daily basis. It was not uncommon for Mike to receive daily phone calls from other supervisors and agencies thanking him for sending his K9 teams to certain incidents. They always told him the incidents came to a successful conclusion because of the performance of the K9 teams.
Mike will not only be missed as our supervisor, but also as a friend. Good luck in the Narcotics Unit !!!!!!

After 5 ½ years in the K9 Unit Senior Deputy Scott Sedgwick has decided to hang up the leash and transfer to Detention Services.
While in the K9 Unit Scott has had the opportunity to work with 2 wonderful police dogs. His first dog “Ben” was handed down to him from a previous handler. “Ben” retired after 4 years of service with the unit. Scott was then chosen to receive another dog, “Vex.” Scott and Vex have been a K9 team for 2 ½ years. “Vex” will remain in the unit and he will be given to a new handler.
Scott was a very successful K9 handler. He responded to over 1,000 K9 incidents, where either “Ben” or “Vex” were deployed. Scott made hundreds of arrests, made friends with thousands of school children by doing demonstrations and saved patrol deputies hundreds of thousands of man hoursby conducting searches by utilizing both of his K9 partners over the past 5 ½ years of service.
Scott – good luck to you in your new assignment and we will miss you. |
